Remarks

Can be confused with another European species of the same genus: Talochlamys pusio (Linnaeus, 1758)

This species lives attached by its byssus to rocks and is less distorted, Talochlamys pusio lives cemented on stones or coral and is much more deformed.
The specimens from South Africa were formerly named Pecten tinctus (Reeve, 1853) but are now considerated a synonym. They are more elongated than the specimens from the Mediterranean.
Can reach 40 mm in height.
